Faced with the rapid development of Chinese wind turbine manufacturers, foreign wind turbine manufacturers began to try to find new ways to expand the Chinese market.

Gamesa, the world's sixth largest wind turbine manufacturer, announced yesterday that it has signed an agreement with Longyuan Power Group Co., Ltd., the world's third largest wind farm developer. Through this new strategic cooperation, Gamesa will cooperate with Longyuan Power in the international market Cooperative development of wind energy projects.

Gamesa chairman and CEO Jorge Calvet told the China Business News (Weibo) Daily yesterday that the two parties plan to study joint development of wind farms in major regions such as the United States, Europe and Latin America. Gamesa Wind turbines will be provided to the wind farms in which both parties cooperate.

The company entered China in 2000. Unlike Suzlan India, the world's third-largest wind turbine manufacturer, its strategy in China was different. Gamesa in China not only produces wind turbines but also develops wind farm business.

As the National Development and Reform Commission cancelled the clause that the localization rate of wind power equipment should reach more than 70% last year, it is very difficult for foreign capital to expand the Chinese market. China's wind turbine export volume has also expanded rapidly, and Xiangdian Wind Energy, Tianwei Wind Power, Changzhou Xinyu, Zhuzhou Electric and other companies have exported wind turbines. Tokai Securities analyst Niu Jigang said that China's wind turbine export volume increased by 8.8 times in 2010, while export orders in 2011 increased by 6.3 times year-on-year.

Entering 2011, Sinovel, Jinfeng Technology, Dongfang Electric, Sany Electric, and Changxing Wind Power will execute larger overseas orders.

Behind the rapid occupation of Chinese fans by the international market is a sharp drop in prices. From 2004 to 2008, the price of wind turbines in China rose along the way, once reaching 6,200 yuan / kW, but since the second half of 2008, it has fallen rapidly, falling at a rate of almost 1,000 yuan per year. By the end of 2009, the market price of domestic wind turbines Has fallen below 5,000 yuan / kW.

Compared to the prices of overseas wind turbine manufacturers, domestic prices are significantly lower. From the data of 2009, the average price of wind turbines by Vestas, Gamesa and Suzlon is 87.6% ~ 163.9% higher than Goldwind Technology. Niu Jigang said that the current installed price of wind power in foreign countries is about 11,800 yuan / kilowatt, while the installed cost of wind power in China is about 4,000 yuan / kilowatt.

Not only Gamesa, other foreign companies are also trying to pull Chinese companies together to expand the international market. He Yaozu, CEO of Suzlon China, previously told this newspaper that Chinese wind power developers are actively conducting overseas business, hoping to expand overseas markets with them.

While expanding international markets with Chinese companies, foreign capital has not given up on the Chinese market. George Carvert said that the cooperation with Chinese companies to develop the domestic market in China and the development of international markets with Chinese companies are the focus of Gamesa. After all, the Chinese market ’s share of Gamesa ’s global sales has increased from 15% in 2009 to 28% in 2010.
